Innovation

I chose the page on the environment because I think it is relevant to show students how important is this item. In fact, the environment is essential for our earth and people should try to be more sustainably. Working  with pupils on various environmental causes like replacing plastic bags with paper bags, save plants or trees in danger, ... is a good way to make pupils aware of the importance of sustainability. As a future teacher, I think is relevant to make students sensitive to the problems that surround us. It is likely that some students won't memorize everything the teacher says, even some won't get why environment is important. However, if the teacher does the teaching "learning by doing"- for example starting with separate waste in the classroom - it will help the pupils to understand the aims to reach.

Write a reflection on this quote: 'In a time when there is hunger for innovation everywhere, we think our primary responsibility is to help prepare a generation of students to rise with the challenges of our times' (d.school). How and why do you intend to create an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset in your pupils? Or why not?
To answer the question, I would like to introduce the subject by explaining what is my point of view about this citation "{...} to help prepare a generation of students to rise with the challenges of our times.". We live in a world who is changing all the time, we follow the evolution of the economy, of the technology, and simply of what it surrounds us. This is our role as a teacher to adapt our teaching to the evolution of the society in order that the pupils can be prepared for the social life.
To be innovative with the students, I would start by choosing the subjects of the current society that would be interesting to know more about it,  like the environment (pollution, global warming, etc.), technology (computers, telephones). For each subject, I would start by questioning students on their knowledge of the topic. Then I would go deeper and give more information so that, the students' knowledge could expand.
In order that the topic is understood by everyone, especially for younger pupils, I could rely on various didactic teaching tools like websites, videos, drawings, etc.. For example, for the pollution, there are various websites that explain very well what it means. pollution video pollution website
For a work like this, it is essential that students can share their opinions, whether in whole class or by groups. To provide an opportunity for all students to express themselves, it is important to give them ideas on the subject, to explain clearly. Therefore, practical activities should be established. If I work on pollution, I could make role plays with pupils. Indeed, theater help the understanding of concepts. I could also make an excursion and show the pollution in the streets and find solutions to prevent against pollution or to improve things.
Focus on discussions with pupils, exchanges ideas and give opinions is something to consider. By working with these concepts: collaboration, learning by doing, work shops, etc., it will promote the students to participate, to be open-minded and to understand key concepts that are essentials nowadays.

An other way to be innovative and entrepreneurial with pupils is to work with other countries. In the website Design for Change,  we can watch movies about students in all around the world, about methods that are used for a better world. We can see pupils in actions and lots of ideas are interesting. This is also an important part of the innovation: be inspired by other countries, work with them and collaborate to find solutions to problems but also understand that each country has different challenges.

In this module of globalization, we worked with some interesting websites that we can use for our teaching and I think that it is a really good way to bring something new to the pupils, something different that they have never been faced to.
